Many thanks for that Jim, I have passed on this info - together with website details in the hope that he too might register.

    Recommended Bird Guide(s) for Malaysia

A friend who is resident in Malaysia has asked if I can recommend a particular bird-guide book for his part of the world. He has used "A Field Guide to the Birds of South-East Asia" by Craig Robson to date, but finds some of the taxonomy slightly confusing. I would be grateful for any...

High Flying Flock (Berwick) UK c 15 Apr 2016

A colleague on another website recently posted this pic. High flying birds near the coast in the Berwick area "a few days ago". No further detail. My guess would be Cormorants, but a more informed opinion would be welcomed.

    Red-Throated Loon or? (Germany)

Confirmation please (or otherwise) on birds depicted in photos attached. Seen this morning on local (large) waterbody. Although views were distant, with scope on 30x my thoughts were probable RTL. Advice greatly appreciated. Mike Bramwell

    Gulls - Lake Constance

Got it Stonechat 1! I've just noticed your location - so it should then be Bodensee. But outside of our domain, I don't think Bodensee is that well known. Many thanks Lou, I am much wiser for your help. Mike B

    Gulls - Lake Constance

Seen today, on the lake (during a short holiday), in the company of 3 adult YL Gulls, and one 3cy Common Gull. Pics 1 to 3 all the of same bird - the leg colour appeared grey/pink. The bird in Pic 4 launched just as I pressed the shutter, but may prove useful for underside plumage. I suspect...

    Are Bird Hides 'Uncomfortable' Places?

I wouldn't normally offer a reply that is a way off-thread, BUT I have to say that I have been amazed at Swarovski's after sales service. My dog ran into my HD80 while it was propped against the hallway wall (he was on cat-alert). Damage? Mounting foot completely severed from body. Sent the...

    Goose Hybrid Saarland Germany

Seen recently with ca 85 Canada Geese (sorry about pic quality). It may have been previously reported as Canada Goose x Greylag, though I have a suspicion there might be an element of-Bar Headed Goose (head and bill colouration); they are seen quite often in this region. Any other offers? Many...

    Just another tufty (Germany)?

Watched this bird for an hour in the rain this morning. Talked myself into thinking it was Aythya hybrid, but in better light later in the day I had to opt for Tufted Duck (imm female). Anyone like to confirm, please. Mike B

Did I do the right thing?

That's quite a nifty trick actually. How large do you reckon do they have to be, would an A4 sized picture of a raptor silhouette be large enough? Couldn't find any on Amazon nor eBay. Also, what should I feed to an average bird in case this happens? Would sunflower seeds work? Try "raptor...

Did I do the right thing?

Hi hpski. I had the same misfortune when I moved to my current house some years ago, then I noticed stick-on raptor silhouettes (in black) on the local bus shelter glass panels. I placed a few on the outside windows all round my house, and have not lost a bird in the same manner since. Mike B
