Entry level video camera for nature filming

Good day, I would like to get an entry level video camera for general nature filming, but have no idea where to begin. It would be nice to shoot with at least 4K and have a camera that can shoot under poor light conditions as well as something with a reasonable zoom. Not sure if this is the best...

    Different starlings

Hi Victor, Yes Nelspruit is such a great place to live in. A lot of awesome birds and with the Kruger on my doorstep I really am spoilt. So the big thing with Meve’s and Burchells Starlings in the Kruger is that they typically occur in different areas. Burchells in the central and southern...

    Different starlings

No link that I know of, but I would be happy to help if you have any particular questions on the ID's of these? Usually by looking at distribution and habitat you should be able to eliminate several species. The calls also vary, so that could also help.

    Birding lodge recommendations?

Assuming you are referring to the bungalows in the Kruger Park, you can buy supplies from the shops in all the main camps, but the shops can be quite expensive, so it would be best to stock up at one of the towns outside the park.

    Birding lodge recommendations?

Hi, you dont specify where in South Africa? Its a big country with many lodging options. South Africa is a popular tourist attraction and most lodges/hotels/B&B's that deal especially with inbound travellers are used to catering to various dietary requirements. We often cater for vegans...

    Johannesburg Accommodation and birding

Hi Egret, I can recommend the Outlook Lodge - www.outlook-lodge.com It is a short 10min drive from the airport and airport transfers can also be arranged. There is a nice bird sanctuary situated close to the lodge which often has an abundance of birdlife. It is a close 5min walk from the lodge...

    Stint - South Africa

That was my initial thought as well, but apparently not. Well, still waiting to see if there will be a final verdict here. Thanks for your input. :t:

    Stint - South Africa

Thank you tconzemi, CARERY and KGS for your comments. I sent the above two photos to another gentleman whom I regard as quite a wader expert (my opinion). He was quick to call the first bird a Temminck's and the second bird nothing else but a Little Stint.

    Stint - South Africa

Hi, there has been some thoughts on this stint being a rarity. I don't want to mention which just yet. I would appreciate any and all opinions of those who know their waders well on what they would say this is. These photos are not mine but being shared from those who have manged to photograph...

    Birding tours

I would be happy to assist. I live in Nelspruit which is close to the park, and we do wildlife safaris in the Kruger. I am a specialist bird guide, I just dont do much guiding anymore as the business keeps me busy, but if you let me know where you will be staying, or if you have any set plans...

Lists of "Common" birds ? Bird pal in J'burg?

Hi! Firstly you are going to have a great time birding in southern Africa. There are many great birds to see and you certainly seem to be covering quite a big area. It will be very difficult to give you a list of common species, considering all the places you intend visiting. It would be a long...

Which Lesser Black-backed Gull spp, South Africa

The following Lesser Black-backed Gull has been present at a large inland dam in South Africa since the beginning of Oct. There has been a lot of speculation as to which sub-species this particular bird may belong to, or if indeed it could be a new species altogether for South Africa. Typically...

    Golden Gate Highlands Nat`l Park

It is definitely worth it. The tall sandstone cliffs and general scenery is beautiful. I am sure you will get to see a few good bird species too.
