What would £500 get me? Lightweight scope with 1.25" removable EP wanted.

It does help. :) My 'A. warehouse' Rollei c5i carbon tripod turned out to be a carbon City Traveller with a leg that had detached! FFS! It's on it's way back 'Free Returns'!

What would £500 get me? Lightweight scope with 1.25" removable EP wanted.

Thanks, I'll take a look at the lighter version, at c1.3kg that's about right for me - my 'pit pony' days are over! :D

What would £500 get me? Lightweight scope with 1.25" removable EP wanted.

I'm keeping that scope in mind (y) But the Velbon tripod is a bit heavy. I've got an old Slik88 that is going to a charity shop. I'm waiting for an Amazon Warehouse Rollei c5i carbon tripod to turn up to check it out. :)

What would £500 get me? Lightweight scope with 1.25" removable EP wanted.

Well the clue is in the title. :) I've around £500 (or more!) to buy a lightweight (birding) angled scope that has a removable 1.25" eyepiece. I want to mostly use it for birdwatching but as per my previous thread, I also would like to point it at the night sky with some w/a astro lens (did that...

Different scope for birds and for stars?

Hi B the guys at astroGC say: "At astroGC we are using extremely wide aperture telescopes along with state of art eyepieces. We are the only company offering 16" wide aperture telescopes in Gran Canaria. This newtonian telescopes are optimized for observation due to the reduced size of the...

Different scope for birds and for stars?

We'll be in the same hemisphere, so I think it was slightly daft, but I'm not sure, lol. But I shall bare in mind Jupiter might be around and ask. It is with these guys, it sounds very interesting and something I've wanted to try for ages. https://www.astrogc.com/index-otros-why-astrogc.html

Different scope for birds and for stars?

Oooh by Jupiter! We're off to Gran Canaria in a week or so and going on an astronomy trip up in the mountains - will Jupiter be visible from there? Is that a daft question? Of course I will like the £3k ones, I'm not daft! ;) :D

Different scope for birds and for stars?

Thanks Will, you make star-gazing sound very enticing. I will be looking for first and foremost a birding scope. But if the choice allows then why not keep in mind that I could do a bit of (summer) night sky staring, even if I don't know what I'm seeing or where it actually is!(y)

Different scope for birds and for stars?

I wondered what all those bloody holes were! :D It's quite dark in places around here, we're in an AONB. I think I'll look for a scope that has a removable 1.25" EP and that will allow a bit of 'wanting' for such things as Binastro suggests. :)

Different scope for birds and for stars?

Thanks, I'll check those out. My preference is a limited budget, my intended purchases often start out that way, but end up different. ;) Nowadays I allow personal practicalities to overcome budgetary restraints - so I do know that we won't want to take a 'heavy' scope around with us, and if...

Different scope for birds and for stars?

Thanks for everyone's input, the mists are clearing! :D So I will start looking for a scope with a removable 1.25" EP and lightweight! :D I'm now really looking forward to our short break to Gran Canaria where I have arranged an evening astro trip to see the night sky with experts!

Different scope for birds and for stars?

Hi, I 'struggled' to know which of the scopes had removable EPs. I reckon if it doesn't say it is then it isn't. :D But this is where your understanding is to you 'common knowledge' and to me 'what'? I meant to ask why was it 'good' to be able to have a 1,25" astro EP? What do they give that the...

Different scope for birds and for stars?

I'm mostly wanting to watch birds with a scope. I just thought it would be cool to be able to point it at the night sky occasionally. To which end I wondered if there was maybe one scope that would be easier 'dual-purpose' than an other. I'd seen 'stuff' about eyepiece size and being able to use...

Different scope for birds and for stars?

I was just wondering what £48 quid got you :D My budget, as always is flexible, but I try and be 'realistic'. I've just bought a Rollei C5i tripod off Amazon warehouse for starters... But I still don't understand the basic difference between a scope you point at birds and one you point at 'the...

Different scope for birds and for stars?

Hi, I'm just thinking about getting a budget scope and tripod for the few times we might want to carry one about when we go birding. We mostly just walk about carrying binoculars, but there are some very 'reasonably priced' scopes and tripods that are lightweight so I wondered about a New Year...
