    Young Gulls Northern Seward Peninsula, Alaska

    Thank you all. Western Gulls as was pointed out are too far south of my arctic location. Glaucous are the dominant Larid species and I would have to say that GW are less than 5% of the large gull population (and that might be generous).

    I am looking at the bird to the right. I know I have a Black-legged Kittiwake on the left, and a young Glaucous Gull but am wondering about the darker gull. The bill is a different shape and has more black on it. Was thinking it might be a Glaucous-winged Gull?

    Thank you for all the insights all of you have given. Europeans have much more contact with these birds. They didn't make a peep the entire time I was around. And yes Shishmaref is an amazing place to live.

    I could be wrong but I am thinking Hermit Thrush. I would think that you should see more buffy color in the throat area.

    I took this photo last night. Please confirm this is a female Blackpoll Warbler. I have not seen a Blackpoll Warbler in 10 years and that was a male.

    Western or Eastern Wood-Pewee? Seems odd but there are a pair of Easterns north of Nome. This was at a bit of distance and the other the wrong side of the sun.
