    Swift ID Whitburn Co.Durham

Swifts like these turn up every year in late autumn and get us all going. Me and some friends had a swift on the 1st of November at LBO in 2008. The general consensus was pallid, but it never got anywhere due to some doubts. After consulting someone with a lot more knowledge than i have, i was...

can't make out any barring on the flanks in the pic but it is distant. Maybe a lesser?!

    Redpolls, get a grip

I have it on good authority that they will all be lumped together as one. If i had the decision i would also have kept the Horny mans as a full species, but there you go, ours is not to reason why.

    Eastern Chiffchaff

its hard to tell a lot from your photo's but it does seem very buffy underneath. Sibe's tend to be very brown above and very white below, with very restricted buff flanks. Some of the far northern population of abietinus have a call very similar to tristis. sorry i can't be more help

    Stint id , please....

Hi all Have to agree with brian. You can see the grey lesser coverts, and the long rear end pointing towards Red-necked stint. Happy Mega Hunting everyone, after these winds have calmed down!

    warbler and buzzard from Jeddah

If you mean the warbler its pretty impossible to call first winters from adults. you'd have to check if flight feathers are worn or not. I have no problem admitting i know very little about oriental honey buzz, just that a mate had seen them abroad and a quick way to i.d them was 6 primary...

    warbler and buzzard from Jeddah

Hi All Warbler looks like a Hippo, possibly Melodious ( could be very wrong though, thought it was an acro at first, but it shows white outertail feathers). The Buzzard is a honey, but probably european. Oriental Honey should show 6 primary tips i think!? Cheers

    Siberian Chiffchaff ? Shetland

Hi Makpe I would agree with Jane on abietinus, given the really green and yellow tones in the bird. I was just pointing to it not being a tristis . All the tristis i've seen in britain have been, as you say, brown above, mantle and head with grey tones, and white bellow Although they can...

Don't worry about it, We all have our moments! Cheers

    Siberian Chiffchaff ? Shetland

Siberian Chiffchaff should't show any green tinge to the head and mantle, and instead show a grey tint to the brown. The super should be buff not yellowish. Upperparts brown and underparts white, sometimes with a hint of buff on the flanks. You have an collybita cheers
