    What to feed young crow

Well – I had to put Junior back in the yard this morning. He found a front window and his parents found him. They sat just outside the window and screamed for a couple of hours. Junior wouldn’t take food or water and I felt with the parents in sight he wasn’t likely to take anything from me...

    What to feed young crow

I live in the Tampa Bay area on a barrier island. A pair of crows raised a litter in a tall Washingtonian palm in my back yard. Two left the nest and evidently flew away. A third fluttered to the ground and has been hopping around on the ground for three days. We have some aggressive...

    Canon Image Stabilized (IS) Binoculars

This is the heraldic lion on the boat. First shot is 35mm, second a 12X stabilized zoom shot (420mm) and the third a crop of the lion. There is no way I can make it out without stabilization or a tripod no matter how good the binoculars. And even though the Leicas are brighter you can see...

How good can you make a photo?

It is a bit late, but if you are still having Photoshop problems you can Ctrl+Alt+Shift and reset everything back to default. No need to reinstall if you just have an odd setting you can’t find. Try to avoid brightness/contrast. Photoshop help says it isn’t for advanced work and for good...

Pale washed out photos re digiscoped pics.

You don’t need plug-ins or special programs with Photoshop for cleaning up foggy pictures. You have to keep in mind that defogging with a small amount and large radius isn’t a sharpening step and you also sharpen the image. This was a quick and dirty in Photoshop.

    White Stork (please critique)

I don’t have a problem with the cropping. If everything is blue around the bird you can’t very well use the rule of thirds. Not much you can do but center the bird. Did you take that as a 12Mp raw shot? The Tcon 17 seems to be working well for you.

    Seabird paradise

The line between parrots, parakeets, and conures doesn’t seem very well defined in that size range. The nandays are pretty large to be called parakeets IMO. My African Grey stays in a screened porch near the feeder. The Quakers never bothered her, but she was agitated for a while when the...

    Canon Image Stabilized (IS) Binoculars

My neighbor has a pricey pair of Leica roof prism binoculars and we were comparing. There was a boat on a lift a few hundred yards away with a small family crest or something on the side with a lion. We couldn’t make it out with the Leicas because of shake, but it was clear with my Canon 10X30...

    Seabird paradise

They are known as Quaker parrots or Quaker parakeets or Monk parrots. The most common name down our way is Quaker parrot. I know several people who have them as pets and they are quite loveable. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/5484/quakers.htm Quakers are illegal to own or import in about 16...

    Seabird paradise

I live on the water in Florida and there is constant entertainment out the window. My computer room looks out on the yard and water and I can watch the interaction. I have two large poles beyond the dock and they are seldom empty. One is a little higher than the other and there is a constant...

    Injured bird

Thanks for the list. The little guy still won’t leave the place where I put him, even with the door open. I had some food you mixed for baby parrots that you could hand feed, but don’t seem to be able to find it. If the little guy doesn’t eat I might have to go that route or contact the...

    Injured bird

Thanks for the welcome. I was based at Myrtle Beach AFB many years ago. It was a fun place to be. I hadn’t considered a pigeon because it is so small. It must be very young. I hope it isn’t expecting me to regurgitate food for him. He couldn’t fly after I fished him out. Might have been...

    Injured bird

I was boating earlier today and found this little guy flailing around in the intercoastal waterway. I brought him home and put out some birdseed and sunflower seeds for him. I don’t know whether he has taken any water but he hasn’t touched the seed. His markings look like a dove or pigeon. I...
