....poesy, on the wing, no less. Ala Michener....?

Canon 15 or 18X50 IS improvements?

Well, I've had my 15x for over 12 yrs now and it still works flawlessly. Haven't tried a later model, but if Canon is ripe for improvement SUGGESTIONS, I have a couple, to wit: less stiction on the rt eyepiece (sometimes a bugger to make minute adjustments), and: eyecups that don't snap your...

Bushnell acquired by ATK Sept 5, 2013

This is good news indeed. Midocean partners is an investment outfit and has no real interest or knowledge of technical products, interested only in bottom line, either for profits or writeoffs. ATK, on the other hand, knows what they're about in this field, already having 2 optics brands under...

    Regarding Nikon Se

If anyone's interested, I've put my SE on ebay. It's a 503 series, which I've never seen mentioned, even by our maven Brock. Have all but quit birding, other than backyard and by the lake from the pickup, so haven't used for a while. Oh, and Bob, Cory is in Henryetta, OK, not TX. Just FYI. Thx

    Victory 7 x 42 FL opinions?

I should add, that if you become the aforementioned addict, you can easily drop enuf $ on glass that could otherwise fund a new Hog to buzz up to Sturgis on (if you don't already have one). Since I kicked the habit (been on the wagon for almost 2 yrs), I've gotten 2 H-D's to run around on. More...

    Victory 7 x 42 FL opinions?

Had mine for 4+ yrs and it gives as easy and as bright a view as you'll find. There'll be the usual comments (soft edges, et al), but if you're gonna critique the view every time you lift them to gaze, soon the view will trump the subject, and you'll become an optics junkie.....a mild neurosis...

    504xxx -> 550xxx?

Well, I have a 503 series...never heard that one discussed. Anyone else have one? Got it in Apr 06. I'm down to 5 now, and that one's a keeper.

    Substitute for telescope

Well, I've had a 15x50 for almost 10 yrs (Apr 03) and purchased it for the same reason you're considering one.....where I live is quite windy most of the time, which makes shorebirding at the local lakes tricky w/o the IS. I too, was using a scope/tripod but didn't like having to get it set up...

    Is the FL old hat?

Haven't been here in a while.....see the discussions are still spirited. Not sure anything will be resolved, but it's good reading. Sadly, due to our brutal summer last year, I did little birding (64 days of 100*+....even the birds found shade and napped most of the day...no dummies, da boids)...

Zeiss 7x42 Dialyt T*P* Coatings Upgrade?

Don't know is Steve Ingraham still works for Zeiss, but if so, ya might try e-mailin' him & c if he can get the mfg date for yr Dialyts.....just a thought.

    When a new Zeiss binocular?

Seems like the next big thing would be digital imaging in real time, compact enuf for a handheld instrument (kinda like what the spy satellites do). Downside is, not having the checkbook ready (other than for earnest $) but preparation to sign a 20yr mortgage....n'cest pas?

    10x50svs vs leica 10x50 vs 56 FLs

Well, that is an excellent argument why one should buy a 8x32 binocular :D It is? You'll feel a lot better & have more stamina if yer in shape. Why limit yrself to a peewee bino if you can take a big one?

    10x50svs vs leica 10x50 vs 56 FLs

It really isn't much of a trick to strengthen your neck & trapezius muscles to a degree where carrying 3-4 lb on a strap all day wouldn't really be noticable. Isometrics (hands laced behind yr melon, chin on yr chest, applying all the pressure you can but gradually letting the neck muscles win...

    Early Elite's

Several yrs ago I had a B&L brochure with all the models at the time (late 80's I think). As well as the Elites (7x36, 8x42 & 10x42), it showed a B Body pebble grain 7x35 Discoverer, and a similar 10x50. I seem to remember the big emphasis with the roofs was the armoring (apparently the 1st yr...

A question about the Nikon Premier 8x32 Roofs

The big ? here is who's gonna get the last word? And will that resolve the.....problem? Meanwhile, I guess we're waitin' for the vet to show up the defibrilator......
