    a few from Florida

I agree with the loggerhead shrike, as that is the type I saw in Florida.

    Uncertains from Whitefish Point, Michigan

Thanks everyone! I will put the second hawk down as a possible dark morph BWH, and the first one down as a Rough-legged.

    Whitefish Point Spring Fling?

Saw a Purple finch and an Evening grosbeak at the feeder, and spied a Rusty blackbird among the cowbirds and grackles. We sat at the feeders after dusk and saw a Saw-whet Owl fly down onto the ground by the feeder. He sat there a minute, but we couldn't see him for the dark. The woods come alive...

Flycatcher, Taquahmenon State Park. I really don't know much about flycatchers, but this looks like a pheobe or peewee to me. Hopefully it is not an empidonax flycatcher, because identification of those is a hundred times harder, probably impossible with this quality of photo...

    Uncertains from Whitefish Point, Michigan

Just got back from Whitefish Point in Michigan's upper penninsula. Here are a few that I'm not sure of. I know that a couple of these are pretty bad shots, but I wonder if ID is stil possible. 1) Female finch, WPBO. Pretty sure it's a female Purple Finch, as it was with a male Purple. 2)...

marshland sparrow for ID- SE Michigan, USA

Thanks guys! I'll put it down as and unidentified sparrow species, possibly Song or White-throated. The picture really isn't good enough to get a positive ID in my opinion.

marshland sparrow for ID- SE Michigan, USA

I wrote this guy off as a song sparrow when I first saw him, but looking closer the facial markings look more pronounced and contrasted than the other Songs I saw. Is it possible that this is of a rarer breed? I would be suprised if it was, but I think it's worth a shot!

    Florida - water birds

I agree with Jeff, and I was lucky enough to see one at Sanibel Island last summer!

Where to put up a nestbox & how to attract tennants

I think that would be the case there!

Where to put up a nestbox & how to attract tennants

I noticed a House Wren hangin around yesterday and he just woke we up again this morning... wrens are good nestbox birds right?

Where to put up a nestbox & how to attract tennants

Which direction should the house face in... I would guess we should not face it directly south because the sun is always in the southern half of the sky and it might not be the best thing for them to be constantly in the sun...
