What kind of warbler? - Upper peninsula, Michigan, USA

Date added. And thanks! I've seen a number of common yellowthroat males, but I guess I've never photographed a female.

What kind of warbler? - Upper peninsula, Michigan, USA

I'm still trying to learn to differentiate warblers...any thoughts on this one? Photo taken this past weekend.

What kind of gull? - Upper Peninsula, Michigan, USA

I took these photos last weekend in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, on the shore of Lake Superior near Pictured Rocks. The large dark gull was the only one of its kind, foraging near a large number of ring-billed gulls. This one was near double the size of the ring-bills. Any idea what it is? I...

    Song sparrow? Indianapolis, IN, 46221

Thoughts on an ID? The streaking, eyeline, behavior, location, etc are all consistent with a song sparrow, but I've never seen the white neck feathers. I took multiple photos, it is not a photo artefact. The white is symmetric, 360 around the neck. I've googled through a bunch of song...

Which flycatcher is this? -Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

I photographed this last weekend in my backyard in Indianapolis. I'm still learning my flycatcher differentiating features - can anybody tell me which flycatcher this is and why? I'm leaning towards a juvenile Eastern Phoebe (eastern phoebe due to the heavy brown coloration especially on the...

Yellow warbler foraging with unknown warbler - Indianapolis

Thanks everybody. I think it was just something dark on the feathers, as I saw what was likely the same pair of birds the next day (I live in a pretty urban area so warblers aren't a very common sight in my back yard). See additional photos from the next day - definitely yellow warblers.

    Cedar Waxwing Call

Cornell university makes an app called "BirdNET" that attempts to ID calls. It's far from 100% accurate, but it might give you some other suggestions of similar sounding calls to look out for.

Yellow warbler foraging with unknown warbler - Indianapolis

Sorry for the photo quality - taken through double pane glass in the rain. Photo was taken today (July 8). I'm confident that the bird in the third photo is a yellow warbler. The other bird however appears to also be a yellow warble except for the distinct black cap. I observed both birds...
