Why exactly do most binoculars feel like "tunnel vision", but some don't?

I noticed this when I once got to try a Nikon Premier 8x32. Suddenly everything was "just there" instead of feeling like I was looking through a tube at something in the distance. It seems like a funny perceptual effect, and I don't understand it. I know that the coatings are much better. You...

    Leopold Yosemite's

Flare Most everyone seems to be pleased with these binos, and I'm certainly interested. However, I saw one review that makes it sound like they have problems with stray light or ghosting (I'm not sure from the review which one, or exactly what the difference is). I know that that's something...

Has anyone tried the Switch Power Golden Rings?

Does anyone know how that system would actually work? How do the Duovids do it?

    Fujinon 6x30 and eyeglasses

I've been interested in the Fujinon 6x30 boating binoculars for a while. I am talking about the currently available (Nautilus) line, not the Polaris, which have been discontinued (alas!) The Nautilus are rated as having 12mm eye relief, which might just be enough for when I'm wearing glasses...

    Best 7x42 (low/mid-price)

It's a little pricier, but in the US the Fujinon CD 7x42 runs about $500. I've never tried that binocular, but I've liked the Fujis that I have looked through, and more experienced people often rave about them. Caveat: these are roofs, and the ones I've heard about more are porros.

    New Leupold Yosemite 6x30

Fuji discontinued the Polaris 6x30s, but they still make the Nautilus 6x30s. I disagree that IF makes a binocular inconvenient, especially at 6-8 magnification. If you set the two eyepieces right (so you can focus at anything closer than infinity, and juuust focus at infinity) then you should...

    New Leupold Yosemite 6x30

Has anyone compared these to the Fujinon Nautilus 6x30s? I've been hoping to test some of those for a long time (the worry is the 12mm eye relief, but sometimes that's all right). I'm interested in the 6x30 format because I like to go kayaking. There aren't that many really waterproof 6x30s...

    Steiner big binocs?

www.binoculars.org has pretty good tests on a lot of binoculars. In the "Giant" category he didn't like the Steiners at all; the close focus was about 100 feet! I don't know how much things have changed since he did those tests, but the Zhumells seemed like a good deal for nice optics in that...

How do you get Opticron (anything) in North America?

Some of the Canadians seem to have them; where do you get them? Online? In shops? Do you have to order from the UK? I keep hearing about this great stuff and I've seen it online, and I want to try it out!! :eat:
