Chile - El Yeso Valley or Farallones ?

Thanks for the reply. I have looked on ebird but the Farellones region is split into many different sites which might or might not be covered in a one day visit (ie some might be a couple of hours walk from a road), tough to get to etc........ the same but less so with El Yeso. It's not as...

Chile - El Yeso Valley or Farallones ?

We have 2 days based out of Santiago in December. Day one will be Campana/Coast/Wine tasting and Day two will be either Farallones or El Yeso. Obviously El Yeso is attractive due to the diademed plover but a little further from Santiago. Otherwise is there much difference between the birds we...

I used these guys to put together a small 3-4 day itinerary for Hortobagy & Zemplen. Hungarian Birdwatching - Professional Birding in Hungary. Very good and very knowledgeable.

One day birding in Jordan from Amman

Yes just got it ! Good luck if you decide to take it. I'm sure you'll do/have done a google search to see if anyone has reported issues in the last 3 years or so.

One day birding in Jordan from Amman

Hi Dave. I was worried so I actually cheated a little. They guys I was visiting were fairly "influential" in Jordan (it was primarily a work visit) and when I mentioned this concern they arranged for someone to meet me as I came off the plane and walk me through immigration/passports etc to...

Another shout out for Yankuba Tamba. We've just returned from our third visit to the Gambia where we've been guided by him. If you want a guide with a flashy car and constant banter then he's not the guide for you. If you want a guide with fantastic ears and eyes for instant identification, and...

Out of interest where did you stay upriver ? I struggled to find anywhere that wasn't extremely basic.

Guide recommendation for birding Doi Inthanon....and other reserves.

Strong recommendation for Chintana of www.windowofthailand.com. I was lucky enough to be guided by Chintana for 3 days earlier this month in Doi Inthanon. Her husband, who usually does more of the cultural guiding, came along as driver and very useful additional spotter. Great spotter, guide...

Divers/Loons in winter plumage in Norfolk

Thanks Alexander. I did think the bill was a good fit for RND though Collins seems to suggest they should have very white necks in winter - perhaps juveniles then ?

Divers/Loons in winter plumage in Norfolk

Sorry, hopeless at identifying and can't match to Collins or google. Presumably GN divers are the most common this time of year ? First was on the creek/inlet from the beach at Titchwell, the second at Blakeney/Morston harbour, both on saturday. Thanks Tony

    Gambia local guide prices

What is the going rate in 2022 for a full morning's guiding at say Brufut/Tanji with pick up from Kotu Creek area, including transport for one birder/two birders ?

That is half of the problem. If you make a booking for you and your wife, and then for the same timeslot he gets a request to guide a group, you will be dropped and an apprentice will turn up without any prior notification. I guess he passes on the lead for a small commission. Happened to me...

    New OM-1

Thanks Chris. That makes a lot of sense actually, and simpler than my button & cog" method ! I'd used C3 as general wildlife and forgotten there were 4 "C" options so will follow your set up and just move general wildlife to C4.

    New OM-1

Thanks Chris. Earlier you'd said ".....but where I need to pick out a partially obscured bird (where the bird detect sometimes struggles) I turn bird detect off and use S-AF with a single focus point." I guess what I was asking was how you do that quickly in practice. This is the only issue I...
