Quintana Roo birding without a guide?

Thanks for the helpful replies. We'll be staying on the coast between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen. Not sure if we'll venture as far as Rio Lagartos but I'll keep the recommendation in mind. My one remaining question is if anyone has knowledge of Reserva Toh's guide requirement specifically!

Quintana Roo birding without a guide?

I am going to Quintana Roo at the end of March and hope to do a fair bit of birding. It sounds like there's some great places to go in the area, like Si'an Kaan and Reserva Toh, but literally every review I read about these places mentions a guide. I haven't necessarily read anything that says...

Confirm Juv/Imm Song Sparrow -- Albany, CA, US

I believe this to be a juvenile/immature Song Sparrow. Is that correct? Taken from the bayside fields near the Albany Mudflats earlier today. https://imgur.com/O5Bbq5I

Red-collared Lorikeet in Sydney Royal Botanical Garden

Sure thing! I uploaded them to an imgur album: https://imgur.com/a/HATd13N

Red-collared Lorikeet in Sydney Royal Botanical Garden

Excuse me! Everything in the post/title should say Red-collared Lorikeet, not Red-shouldered!

Red-collared Lorikeet in Sydney Royal Botanical Garden

I have photographic evidence of what I am quite sure is a Red-collared Lorikeet at the Sydney Royal Botanical Garden. It was hanging with a small group of Rainbow Lorikeets. Am I correct in assuming that this is a single escaped housepet? My field guide for Australia does not show these...

    Is This a Harris Hawk

When you search in iBird, it only pulls up birds with that word in its common name. I recommend using the "Refine Your Search" options and selecting location and family--that way the oddly-named birds don't escape your search. I've never thought about it, but I suppose the way the search...

    Is This a Harris Hawk

Nope, this is a Northern Harrier. The owl-like facial disk in image 3 is a dead giveaway. Harris Hawk would be quite out of range in Yellowstone! Nice pictures

    Clark's Nutcrackers in all-Juniper habitat

How widespread do cone crop failures tend to be? What causes them?

    Asheville, NC - high percher

Looks to me like a male Yellow-rumped Warbler (Myrtle's subspecies).

    Clark's Nutcrackers in all-Juniper habitat

Wonder if I'll be seeing them throughout the valley this winter then

    Warblers on Vancouver Island

I still think MacGillivray's on the left. I don't see any eyeline, though it would be faint on a juv. Orange-crowned. Edit: Looks like leg color distinguishes the two as well.

    Clark's Nutcrackers in all-Juniper habitat

Today I visited one of my favorite local hotspots, located at the mouth of a canyon. The floor of the canyon has some deciduous trees, but the entire face of the north ridge is nothing but Juniper. I am under the impression that Clark's Nutcrackers basically eat nothing but pine nuts, maybe...

    I'm useless for the non-adults, but isn't no. 3 a typical Western?
