    Possible leucistic Pine Siskin

This bird has been showing up for a week now at my feeders, with a flock of Pine Siskins. It looks larger than the others, but exibits similar behaviour. I have more pics at http://weaselhead.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=4856

    Full Steam Ahead!

I couldn't resist posting this female Northern Flicker taking command of the good ship EGS.

    This won't hurt a bit...

I'm not sure why the Flickers are so interested in this EGS sprinkler. Perhaps some spiders call the back end 'home'.
  4. African Silverbill

    African Silverbill

Checking things out from the rafters of a restaurant in Maui during breakfast. Originally from Africa, this bird was first sighted in Hawai'i in the early 70's. Introduction date unknown.

Great 'crest' shot. It's interesting that it has blue nasal tufts too. I've seen different coloured nasal tufts on these birds. Black, white and blue, and still wonder about it. I guess it could be lighting, but I don't think so.

Female Flicker sur le EGS Sprinkler

Female Northern Flicker Hybrid. Has a grey cap, but red underwings. I just wish the invasive EGS sprinkler was real...NOT!

It's interesting that you have Yellow-shafted/Red-shafted hybrids in B.C. too. One of my favourite birds :)

    Which Feeder?

Hi Andrew, I remember reading about a similar sounding RSPB feeder. Unfortunately, the food got low and a bird (Green Finch I think) was able to get it's head stuck in the feeder reaching for the last of the seeds. It didn't survive the ordeal. I don't know if was the exact same feeder, but it...

Wow Cathy! Great shot and a wonderful encounter - how cool to be up close and personal with a Bald Eagle <smile>

    Hybrid Northern Flicker

One of the Flickers who visited my yard daily last winter. He returned today, looking for the suet basket, which I've now put back in the same spot. It would be fun to get a good comparison shot.

Thanks Helen - nice to see you again. It's always fun to see the great photos in this contest. I was shocked that I made the cut this time, but wouldn't be too shocked that this particular bird did attract a mate. lol!

I spy with my little eye

Not a great technical shot by any means, but I thought it was interesting that you could see this little Rufous Hummer's eye through the bee balm. It was just about the only thing in focus (aside from that tiny pink brontosaurus taking a smoke break on the top of the flower head).

I want to be a real bird...

I was out last spring observing Northern Flicker courtship behaviour. When I downloaded the photos, I was surprised to see that I'd captured Pinocchio. I also refer to this phenomenon, as an ATS (Annoying Twig Shot)
