• Plain mantle and back
• Barred breast
• Spotted belly and flanks
• Pale yellow eyes.

Known from 5 specimens from north-eastern Zaire and northern Rwanda^[1]

Monotypic.

This taxon is considered a subspecies of Glaucidium capense (sensu lato) by some authors^[2]

Open montane and transitional forest, with many clearings.

The diet includes invertebrates.
