  • Rounded head, heavily spotted with white
  • Plain mantle and back
  • Barred breast
  • Spotted belly and flanks
  • Pale yellow eyes.

Western Africa: Democratic Republic of the Congo
Eastern Africa: Rwanda

Known from 5 specimens from north-eastern Zaire and northern Rwanda[1]

Monotypic.

This taxon is considered a subspecies of Glaucidium capense (sensu lato) by some authors[2]

Open montane and transitional forest, with many clearings.

The diet includes invertebrates.
