[edit] IdentificationTwo groups of birds occur: black-billed in the northern part of the range while bills are mostly yellow in the southern part2. [edit] DistributionAndes from Colombia and Venezuela south to Chile, Argentina and the south of Brazil. The southern lowland populations are migratory. [edit] TaxonomyFour subspecies are recognized1: Anas flavirostris altipetens, Anas flavirostris andium, Anas flavirostris oxyptera, and Anas flavirostris flavirostris. Andean Teal, Anas andium including the two black-billed subspecies andium and altipetens, has recently been split by the SACC2, but this is not yet recognized by the major checklists.
