This is a monotypic species.^[1]

Treated as a race of Crested Serpent Eagle S. cheela by some authors.(Citation needed)

Forest clearings in the interior of islands.

Replaced by davisoni race of Crested Serpent Eagle in coastal forest.^[1]

The diet includes birds, frogs, lizards, snakes, and rats.
