Notice especially the pale buff patch on the ear coverts and the bold scalloping on the underside, with mid belly red.

Locally common in southwestern Azuero Peninsula (Panama); it is a species endemic to Panama.

[edit] Taxonomy

This population was not described until 1985 (following discovery in 1979). It was originally thought to constitute a subspecies of Painted Parakeet, but studies soon showed that the most similar population known was Todd's Parakeet which at the time was believed to be a subspecies of White-eared Parakeet (but Todd's Parakeet is also sometimes assigned to Painted Parakeet).

Azuero Parakeet is monotypic (no known subspecies)

Found in humid forest and borders in hilly areas.

It flies fast,moving in flocks of 10 to 15 individuals.
