15 cm
- Purplish-azure crown
- Black lores and iris
- Mottled green mantle
- Pale sky-blue rump and uppertail
- Black central tail feathers with blue edging
- Paler underparts with black scaling on upper breast
- Black scapulars and greater and median wing-coverts.

Central America: found in southern Mexico and adjacent Guatemala

This is a monotypic species[1].

Between 860-1900 m asl in humid broadleaf evergreen forest and plantations near to forest edge.
[edit] Behaviour
The Azure-rumped Tanager is omnivorous, it feeds on fruit and invertebrates.
[edit] Breeding
Two eggs are laid in a cup-shaped nest which is hidden in dense foliage. Incubation takes around 14 days.
