• Black primaries and outer tail feathers
• Rest of plumage pale grey

Female mostly pale grey

There are 5 subspecies:

• Luzon (northern Philippines)

• Mindoro (Philippines)

• C. m. ripleyi:

• Philippines (Bohol, Samar, Biliran and Leyte)

• C. m. mindanensis:

• Southern Philippines (Mindanao and Basilan)

• C. m. everetti:

• Sulu Archipelago (Bongao, Jolo, Lapac and Tawitawi)

This taxon is considered a subspecies of Black-shouldered Cicadabird by some authors^[2]

It's sometimes placed in the genus Edolisoma.

Canopy and middle storey of moist lowland forests and montanes, below 1,000 m.
