[edit] Identification

25cm. Green, dark brown-black cap, whitish scaly neck and breast, red upper wing coverts, dark breast feathers with light tips, black beak. Juvenile: As adults but duller; green primary coverts and carpal edge, white cere and bare white eye ring.

Peru to Bolivia and possibly the western edge of Brazil.

[edit] Taxonomy

There are 2 subspecies:

  • P. r. rupicola - central Peru.
  • P. r. sandiae - SE Peru and N Bolivia.

Humid lowland forests, less often in east Andean foothills up to 300m.
