30 cm; tail up to 18 cm. Male - pink head, pale blue on back of crown, nape and cheeks, narrow black neck collar, black chin stripe, red shoulder patch, blue-green rump and tail, tail tipped yellow, yellow upper mandible, dark lower mandible.

Female - pale grey head, pale lower mandible is pale.

Immature - green head, grey chin, yellow mandibles, no red shoulder patch.

Northeast India and southeast Asia.

There are 2 subspecies:

  • P r roseata
  • P r juneae

Forest and open woodland.

[edit] Behaviour

The diet includes fruits and blossoms.

It nests in holes in trees; 4-5 white eggs are laid.
