Identification

10cm. Very short tail.

Distribution

Africa:
Western Africa: Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola
Eastern Africa: Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi
Southern Africa: Namibia, Zimbabwe, South Africa

Taxonomy

Subspecies^[1]

There are 2 subspecies:

• N. b. boehmi:

• Angola to southern Zaire, western Tanzania and northern Zambia

• N. b. sheppardi:

• South-eastern Kenya to southern Tanzania, Mozambique and north-eastern South Africa

Habitat

Aerial, over savanna and woodland, often near Baobab trees.

Behaviour

Flight

It's flight is very fast and erratic - similar to that of a bat.
