Identification
20 cm (7¾ in)
- Brown and yellow ‘bridle’ reaches from the bill to under bright blue eyes
- Blue eye ring
Distribution
Australia: montane rainforests of northeastern Queensland (Cooktown to Paluma).
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Formerly placed in the genus Lichenostomus.
Habitat
Upland rainforests, swamp woodlands, drier forests adjacent to rainforests, above 600m. Also visits gardens.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet includes nectar, beetles and insects.
Breeding
It builds a deep cup nest of fine twigs and tendrils lined with plant-down. The clutch consists of 2 reddish-striped white eggs.
