  • Brown back, wings, and tail
  • Brown-buff breast

Asia: China, India, Nicobar Islands
Southeast Asia: Indochina, Thailand, Malaysia, Malay Peninsula, Brunei, Singapore, Borneo

This is a monotypic species.
It was formerly considered conspecific with Nicobar Jungle Flycatcher and both are sometimes placed in genus Cyornis.

Bamboo undergrowth, low bushes in broadleaved evergreen forests; secondary forest and forest edges between 600 -1,600 m.

The diet includes insects which are hawked aerially.

A cup-shaped nest is built in a shallow tree-cavity.
