This is Menorca's most Northerly point and has some rugged scenery and rocky bays which can hold good birds. There is an area of tamarisk woodland at the southernmost part of the peninsula which can be good for warblers and finches. The low scrub covering the peninsula can hold good numbers of larks and pipits, whilst the rockier areas are home to Blue Rock Thrush. The commoner seabirds can be seen at the Cap although there is a chance of seeing some of the rarer gulls from the 90m (295 feet) cliffs.

Thekla Lark should be easily found anywhere along the road from the gates to the Lighthouse, whilst Osprey may be found fishing in the inlet at Sanitja on the Western side of the peninsula.

[edit] History and Use

The Romans built a town by the inlet at Sanitja and this is currently being excavated. The inlet here is a popular destination for the boating fraternity to anchor for the day.

[edit] Areas of Interest

The Cavalleria farm has opened a small Ecomuseum with a cafe and shop. This displays historical finds from the area and also environmental information. Open from 10.00am each day April through to October. There is an entrance fee. The car park you pass just before reaching the Ecomuseum is for the beach and does get busy at times, but the beach is worth the short walk.

[edit] Access and Facilities

Cap de Cavalleria is reached by turning off the Me-7 at Kilometre 5, just South of Fornells, signposted Cap de Cavalleria and Cala Tirant. Follow the road for approx 4 kilometres to the fourth T junction where you take the right turn, signposted Santa Theresa. Keep on this road past a car parking area to the left, over a cattle grid, when you reach the farm called Cavalleria take the left hand road to the Cap. There is a set of gates on this road, be sure to close them after you've driven through. From the gates it is about 4 Km to the lighthouse, there are places to park all the way along this road. There is no access to the lighthouse building.
