Identification
Length 9-10 cm. A tiny bird with a short, conical bill, black forehead, black eyestripe and short tail. The belly and flanks are yellowish.
Distribution
Angola, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.
Taxonomy
Anthoscopus minutus has three subspecies:
- A. m. damarensis
- Western and south-western Angola to northern Namibia, Botswana, south-eastern Zimbabwe and northern South Africa
- A. m. minutus
- Southern Namibia, south-eastern Botswana, Northern Cape Province (South Africa) and western Free State (South Africa)
- A. m. gigi
- Southern South Africa
Habitat
Dry savanna and shrubland.
Behaviour
It is arborial.
The diet includes insects.
