Genus: Pellorneum
Description
This genus contains several species of Babblers from SE Asia.
They share:
- short, weak rictal bristles
- tail shorter than wing (expect for Marsh Babbler)
- fairly long strong legs and claws
- they usually walk (but sometimes hop)
- a simple whistled song (expect for Marsh Babbler)
Taxonomy
Pellorneum is a genus in the Family Pellorneidae.
It was formerly included in the family Timaliidae.
There are some hints that Pellorneum may consist of several lineages (Jønsson & Fjeldså 2006). If the genus would be split into two or more, the Puff-throated Babbler and its closest relatives would remain in Pellorneum.
