From Opus
Genus: Ptilorrhoa
[edit] Description
Jewel-babblers from New Guinea.
Similar in size and shape to the Quail-thrushes but with a very different coloration of the plumage. Their plumage is mainly electric blue with some white, black and chestnut. All species are shy and elusive and more often heard than seen.
[edit] Taxonomy
Ptilorrhoa is a genus in the family Eupetidae.
If the Malaysian Rail-babbler would be placed in its own family, this genus would be included in Cinclosomatidae.
Osteologically the Jewel-babblers are inseparable from the Quail-thrushes and molecular evidence supports a close relationship.
Some authorities accept the Dimorphic Jewel-babbler as a full species, here it is treated as a subspecies of the Blue Jewel-babbler.
