Small Tanagers found from Costa Rica south to countries in the northern half of South America. They live mainly in lowland humid forests, often in flocks. The males are characteristically black with small white markings on the wing. Some have small bright color patches on the head, rump, and/or crissum. The females are more earth-toned, with browns, olives, and yellow.
