Extinct. Last recorded around 1900.

38cm. Pale brown, paler throat, long decurved bill.

Formerly Chatham Islands, New Zealand.

[edit] Taxonomy

Some authorities (BirdLife International, 2008) place this species in the monotypic genus Cabalus. However, Clements (2007), Howard & Moore (2003), and Sibley & Monroe (1996) all place it in Gallirallus, and the Opus follows this consensus.
