• Dark green upperparts
• Paler green underparts
• White thighs
• Blue upper throat
• Forked metallic blue tail
• Black upper mandible, red lower

Proposals have been made to transfer this species to genus Chlorostilbon

[edit] Subspecies^[1]

Three subspecies are recognized:

• C. n. notata:

• Northern Colombia to Venezuela, Trinidad, Tobago, Guianas, eastern Brazil

• C. n. puruensis:

• South-eastern Colombia to north-eastern Peru and north-western Brazil

• C. n. obsoletus:

• North-eastern Peru (lower Río Ucayali near mouth of Río Napo)

Rainforest and cultivated areas with large trees.

[edit] Breeding

The nest is a deep cup made from lichen and plant material. The eggs are incubated for 16 days and the young fledge 18-19 days later.
