There are 2 subspecies[1]:

  • T. c. citreolus:
  • Pacific slope of western Mexico (Sinaloa to western Oaxaca)
  • T. c. sumichrasti:
  • Pacific slope of southern Mexico (central Oaxaca to Chiapas)

Subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, and heavily degraded former forest.

It builds its nest cavities in arboreal termitaria.

The diet includes caterpillars, flies, arthropods, and fruit.
