[edit] Identification

Length 35cm, with huge (6.5-7.5cm) bill typical of toucan family. Brilliant green overall colour, with bands of blue on underside. Bill dark reddish-brown with white ring around base. Rump is scarlet red.

Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela. Its naturally Common on western slope of Andes between 500m. and 2000m. in elevation.

There are 2 subspecies.

Canopy and borders of foothill and subtropical forest, woodlands, and clearings.

[edit] Behaviour

Tame and tolerant of disturbance. Gathers fruit from bushes and trees in large bill, and swallows it whole by tilting head back and tossing into throat.
