25-28cm.

  • Green
  • Grey brown head
  • Tail is blue tipped
  • Remiges are dark grey below, blue above
  • Broad white eye ring
  • Shiny black bill

South America: found from south-eastern Colombia to northern Bolivia and adjacent western Amazonian Brazil.

This is a monotypic species1.

Swamps, semi open forest, sugar cane and coffee plantations.

The diet includes insect larvae, fruit, seeds, and flowers.

They nest in woodpecker holes or arboreal termite nests; both sexes incubate the eggs and care for the young.
