Monotypic.

Lowland shrubland, grasslands and forests, paddy fields, riverbanks and reedbeds; sometimes gardens.

[edit] Behaviour

The diet includes grass seeds, seeds of weeds, and rice grains.

They nest in holes in banks; 3-6 eggs are laid and incubated for about 13 days. The young fledge about 3 weeks later.
