[edit] OverviewThis extensive wetland complex includes the River Dalalven where it forms a series of shallow lakes, peatbogs and marshes and forest which is regularly flooded in spring. The drier areas of forest, consisting of coniferous and deciduous trees, are unique in being in the zone where the northern flora and fauna meets the southern. Much of this forest is ancient and undisturbed and it is particularly good for woodpeckers with all the seven Swedish breeding species. [edit] Birds[edit] Notable SpeciesIn addition there are grouse, White-tailed Eagle, Northern Goshawk and Ural Owl, Tengmalm's Owl and Eurasian Pygmy Owl. The wetter areas have breeding Black-throated Diver, Osprey and Common Crane, and Whooper Swan occurs in good numbers on passage. Gysinge, in the north of the area, has a hotel. March to early April is the best time to visit for grouse, owls and woodpeckers and later in the year for breeding birds. We saw many osprey and a golden eagle. In additon, we saw two beaver nests (unfortunately we did not see any beavers). Pros
