East Africa. Breeds locally in Somalia and on Socotra, winters in coastal Kenya.
Restricted range species, range may be bigger and undiscovered colonies may exist. Not globally threatened.

Forms a superspecies with Pallid Swift, African Swift and Bradfield's Swift.
Two subspecies recognized:

• A.b. bensoni in Somalia
• A.b. berliozi on Socotra
