8·9–9·9 cm
It has a slightly decurved bill where the lower mandible is pinkish with a darker tip. There is a small white mark behind the eyes. Otherwise it is bronzy green above and a pale golden-green below.

The female is white below with large spangles of green.

Distribution

South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, The Guianas, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 2 subspecies[1]:

  • P. t. theresiae:
  • The Guianas and north-central Brazil (Amazonas, Pará and Amapá)
  • P. t. leucorrhous:
  • Savanna of Colombia to southern Venezuela and north-western; also locally in eastern Peru (Loreto, Madre de Dios) and locally in northwestern Bolivia (La Paz, Beni)

Habitat

Lowland forests and forest edges, fresh water habitats and sandy savanna with bushes. Found at heights between 100 to 300 m.

Behaviour

Diet

It is a trap-line feeder on nectar but also hawks for insects.
