Access and Facilities
Access to the lower campsite 'Ban Krang' is now fast and easy due to the tarmac road to it. This takes about 20 minutes by car and has many interesting places to stop en route. The campsite itself is a good location for viewing many types of birds, with the main trail from it taking you up to Stream 1.
A good trip can be had just at this level, but many of the more exciting birds can only be seen higher up, so hiring a guide with a truck is usually recommended for visitors.
Access upwards from Ban Krang is officially limited by the following times:
Up: 0530 - 0730 and 1300-1500
Down: 0900 - 1000 and 1600 - 1800
In practice visitors are allowed to drive up from the campsite as far as km18 at any time. At km18 there is a large open area by a small dam with a left turn in the road, after which there is a sharp right as the road heads up steeply. The road beyond here is narrow and one-way only and cannot be accessed in a sedan.
There are three streams between the campsite and the dam. In the dry season cars can cross these, however cars with a low carriage will likely ground at Stream 3 and possibly Stream 2.
