Very similar to Eurasian Hoopoe this species is slightly larger and sounds completely different.

Endemic to Madagascar.

This is a monotypic species^[1].

Not accepted by all world-lists and sometimes treated as subspecie of Eurasian Hoopoe (or, if accepted, African Hoopoe)^[2].
