Madagascar Turtle Dove has five subspecies, of which picturata (the nominate subspecies) belongs in Madagascar, comorensis in the Comoro Islands, copperingi in Glorioso Islands and some of the outer Seychelles (Aldabra and Cosmoledo), aldabrana in Amirante Islands of the outer Seychelles, and rostrata in the inner Seychelles
