Identification
12 cm. A small warbler with a strong bill and a rather short tail.
- Olive-grey top of head and upperparts, tinged browner on rump and uppertail-coverts
- Brownish-grey side of head with prominent whitish supercilium, dark eyestripe and whitish-mottled cheek
- Grey-brown upperwing with olive-grey fringes and edges
- Grey-brown tail, tips of outer feathers with whitish fringes
- Off-white throat and underparts with some brown wash on breast and flanks
Sexes similar, juveniles like adults but with darker bills.
Distribution
Endemic to the humid eastern Madagascar.
Fairly widespread and locally common in suitable habitat.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Habitat
Subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests with large trees.
Occurs from sea-level up to 1200 m.
Behaviour
Diet
Feeds on insects. Usually forages in treetops in mixed-species flocks.
Gleans items from small stems and leaves, actively searching along and below the highest branches.
