[edit] Notable Species

The shoreline's Arrowhead Marsh is notable as one of the best locations to get a good look at the endangered California subspecies of the Clapper Rail. In winter the waters of San Leandro Bay are home to a variety of grebes and waterfowl; among the most common species are Surf Scoter, Common Goldeneye, and Eared and Western Grebes.

The shoreline is located near the Oakland International Airport. From Interstate 880, take the Hegenberger Road exit signed for the airport. Make a right at the stoplight on Doolittle Drive just before the airport entrance. Turn right at the next light onto Swan Way; the park entrance is immediately on your left and the best birding areas are accessible from the parking lot at the far end of the entrance road.
