  • Black hood with greenish tinge on nape
  • Green upperparts, wings and tail
  • Orange-yellow patch on chest continuing narrowly to side of neck, bordered by narrow black line below
  • Solid green side of breast
  • Yellow rest of underparts
  • Broadly streaked green flanks
  • Yellow eyes
  • Red bill
  • Greenish legs

Female

  • Entirely green upperparts
  • Green and yellow streaked underparts

Juveniles undescribed.

Similar species

Orange-breasted Fruiteater is very similar. Note green tinge on head and less fiery orange on chest on Masked Fruiteater.

Distribution

Endemic to the eastern slope of the Andes in Peru.
A poorly known restricted-range species. Considered uncommon to rare.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.
Sometimes considered conspecific with Golden-breasted Fruiteater, Orange-breasted Fruiteater and Black-chested Fruiteater.

Habitat

Moist montanes.
Occurs from 1500 to 2250m.

Behaviour

Diet

Feeds on fruit.

Breeding

No information on breeding.

Movements

Probably a sedentary species.
