Identification
19–19·5 cm (7½-7¾ in)
Crown in this species should be spotted (not streaked) and the streaks on the underside should be "crisper" than in Streak-headed Woodcreeper.

Distribution
South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia.
Taxonomy
This species was previously thought to be part of Spot-crowned Woodcreeper.
Subspecies
There are 9 subspecies[1]:
- L. l. sanctaemartae:
- Santa Marta Mountains of northern Colombia
- L. l. lacrymiger:
- East Andes of Colombia and Sierra de Perijá of adjacent western Venezuela
- L. l. lafresnayi:
- Coastal cordillera of northern Venezuela
- L. l. sneiderni:
- Andes of Colombia
- L. l. frigidus:
- East slope of Andes of southern Colombia (Nariño)
- L. l. aequatorialis:
- Pacific slope of Andes of south-western Colombia (Nariño) and Ecuador
- L. l. warscewiczi:
- East slope of Andes of south-eastern Ecuador and Peru (Cajamarca to Junín)
- L. l. carabayae:
- East slope of Andes of south-eastern Peru (Cuzco and Puno)
- L. l. bolivianus:
- East slope of Andes of Bolivia (La Paz, Cochabamba, western Santa Cruz)
Habitat
They live in a variety of forest types, mostly above 1500 m.
Behaviour
Diet
They forage alone or in pairs in mixed species groups for arthropods, but there is little more information available about the actual items taken.
