This area of wetlands forms part of a Ramsar Site at the mouth of the River Bevano and lies on the northern Adriatic]coast of Italy.

In addition to the Bevano rivermouth which is a State Nature Reserve, the area also covers the mouth of the Ghiaia, brackish lagoons, saltpans and canals, mudflats and sand-dunes, pinewoods, scrub and cultivated land.

It is an important area for breeding, passage and wintering waders and waterfowl and has a good selection of typical Mediterranean scrub and woodland birds.

Black-winged Stilt, Pied Avocet and Kentish Plover find ideal breeding conditions here, especially at Cervia Saltpans, as well as Little Tern and Gull-billed Tern. Stone-curlew can also be seen in spring in the drier areas.

A wide range of waders and waterfowl occurs in autumn and winter.

For the pinewoods at Classe return to the S16 and head north to Sant Apollinare in Classe and from there the Pineta di Classe are signposted.

Entry to the Cervia Saltworks is usually allowed only with a guide but part can be seen from the road. To reach the saltworks head south on the S16. This area can also be reached by bus or train from Ravenna where accommodation is plentiful.

The Ortazzo area lies to the south of the town of Ravenna and can be reached on the S16 coast road turning off at the village of Savio eastwards owards the sea.

At the campsite just before Lido di Classe there is a footpath to the reserve entrance, follow this to an observation tower overlooking the rivermouth.
