South America: found in Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina

Polytypic. Consists of three subspecies[1]

  • S. b. bellicosa:
  • S. b. albipes:
  • Arid littoral of south-western Peru (Ica) to extreme northern Chile
  • S. b. catamarcanus:
  • North-western Argentina (Jujuy and Catamarca)

This taxon is considered a subspecies of Pampas Meadowlark by some authors, and catamarcanus not recognised by all[2]
