12.5-14.5 cm
Male

  • Dark blue above
  • White below, with black throat and breast
  • Dark legs and feet.

Female

  • Scaling on underparts
  • White undertail-coverts
  • Buff tail
  • Pale pink legs.

There are 3 subspecies:

  • P. a. albonotata: W New Guinea (Vogelkop Mountains)
  • P. a. griseiventris: Central Highlands of New Guinea
  • P. a. correcta: New Guinea (mountains of Huon Peninsula and se peninsula)
