5" in length. It is a brown bird and has a black mask. Its top is brown and its belly is buff, with a white throat. Its bill is black and short and its legs are pale and long.

Believed to have become extinct in 2004.

The po'ouli was discovered in 1973 in the dense rainforests of East Maui, Hawaii

Its diet includes snails, spiders, and insects. Breeding is from February to June; one or two eggs are laid. This bird’s main calls are a repetitive chick and a whistled wh-whit.
