Identification
Long tail, bright pink throat, breast and belly, brown streaked back and wings.
Distribution
Central-west China at altitudes of 3050 m to 5000 m.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species1. Its taxonomic affinities were unclear for a long time. Using molecular evidence, Groth (2000) proposed that it should in fact be regarded as the only member of the family Urocynchramidae, (something that had been originally proposed in the German ornithological literature as long ago as 1918 by Domaniewski, and also by Wolters in 1979) and this change was adopted by Clements (2007).
